The choice of the water, beaches and open spaces around Millwater is what makes this fast growing suburb so popular. There is easy access to bountiful fishing, diving, swimming, surfing and sailing. The choice of beaches ranges from close-by Orewa to Red Beach, Stanmore Bay, Manly, Army Bay and Gulf Harbour to the east. The Waiwera mineral pools is just ten kilometres north, while the Northern Swim Arena in Silverdale caters for sports, fitness and learn to swim activities. Snow Planet is 5 minutes drive south, while there are a range of Regional Parks to visit such as Wendeholm, Shakespear, Riverhead Forest and the Okura Scenic Bush Reserve.
Schooling
Millwater in Silverdale has access to a range of high quality primary and secondary schools, all within short walking and driving distance of the residential development. Silverdale North Primary School , situated within Millwater, caters for years 1-8, has some of the latest facilities and a good sized role of just under 300 students. The sought-after Kingsway College and Primary School are also nearby. The private Stella Maris Catholic School is again in close proximity, while Orewa College and the privately run Wentworth College on the Whangaparoa peninsular are also popular options. Kingsway preschool is also located in Millwater at 2 Bonair Crescent.
Shopping
Within minutes of Millwater there are a huge range of shopping options. Local specialty shops at Orewa provide an appealing assortment of oceanside restaurants, cafes and boutique shopping. Closer-by, the Silverdale mega-retail complex offers an ever increasing number of specialty stores and food outlets with underground parking and a pedestrian friendly layout. It includes a 24,000 square metre ‘The Warehouse’ and a Countdown supermarket. The new Silverdale Mall boasts a multi-level, Farmers department store as its anchor tenant - extending over 6000 square metres - with a further 30 speciality stores including Whitcoulls, Pascoes, Specsavers and Stevens.
A further smaller Millwater retail area has also been recently completed within the Seaview residential community, offering another 50 specialty stores. Meanwhile the Albany Mega Mall is just 20 minutes drive south, with 150 specialty stores and surrounding large format retailers.
Public Transport
Silverdale has Park and Ride facilities for up to 400 vehicles for commuter access to the Northern ‘Rapid Bus’ public transport network. The rapid bus network links Millwater commuters to Albany, then throughout the North Shore and further on to the central Auckland CBD. State of the art technology and mobile web updates are used to provide real time passenger journey information.
Other Features
Both the 50 hectare Metro West & East Recreation Parks and sports grounds lie within the Millwater development, while the nearby Northern Arena Swim School has become a focus for regional sports and swimming activity. A privately run Southern Cross Healthcare Surgical Hospital is also located at the entrance to the development, while a 53 hectare Silverstone Park Business Campus is being developed on adjacent land. Millwater boasts numerous cycle lanes, parks, playgrounds, and wetlands. It’s 7.5 kilometre pathway network, within the residential development, forms part of the Te Ara Tahuna estuary walkway and cycle lane – linking residents to the Orewa township and beaches.
